Markov Process

In Stochastic Processes class today, we learned about martingales and markov process. Markov process was not a foreign concept for me, because I first learned about it last semester in Speech and Audio Recognition and Processing class. Back when professor first explained to class, he made an analogy of markov process to our lives--each step we make only depends on where we are now.

In the spirit of recruiting season, this made me think about my progress in terms of statistical process. While obviously my past experiences all matter, it is in some sense true that my next step in life depends on the stage I am at right now. Everything I have done was a stepping stone to the another, and at the end of the series of stepping stones I am standing here, choosing the next step in my life.
