Learning Statistics

The first statistics I took in my life was in college: 4150 Intro to Probability and Statistics. Unfortunately, the class was not as introductory as I would’ve liked, and I struggled in the class catching up the fast-paced lectures and memorizing formulas. My first experience learning statistics was way too technical to truly appreciate the value statistics offer. It took me few more years to understand the MEANING of statistical concepts, such as p-values or confidence intervals. I was more focused on writing down as much as I can in the cheat sheet that was allowed in exams, and getting familiar to the machinery of solving problems. I wish my first exams in statistics were more focused on conceptual ideas.
